Pre-Cruise London on Norwegian Sun

Buckingham Palace view from Hyde Park

We started our day after departing our Virgin Atlantic flight at London Heathrow airport.  We arrived in the early morning with foggy minds and patiently waited on our motor coach to arrive.  Within no time at all we were shuffled off with our group from St. Leo’s Catholic Church to the Millennium Gloucester Hotel.  Once there and all checked in we forbade sleep to begin exploration of the area.

We took the London Underground (TUBE) from just around the corner at Gloucester Road station.  Our stop was the Central Line Station at Marble Arch.  There we wondered about the shops of Oxford Street until arriving at the US Embassy.  We took a few photographs plus saw the Audley Street building where I had worked many years ago while stationed in the US Navy.  We got a quick bite to eat and were soon aboard the Number 12 double-Decker bus, arriving at St Paul’s Cathedral.  Next up was Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and of course Buckingham Palace.

Now we found ourselves headed up the Northern Line to the Colindale station and into Northwest London and the Kingsbury, Wembley area.  We walked around Wembley Stadium and stumbled upon The Swan Pub, 789 Harrow Road, Wembley, Middlesex, HA0 2LP.  Here we met some local chaps (English and Scottish) in the bear garden out back.  They loved talking with us so much that they just kept buying us Pint after Pint.  Eventually with a schedule to keep we pulled ourselves away from this wonderful conversation and made our way by British Rail (Sudbury & Harrow Road) back into the city.

Back to the Tower of London we went as this was the meeting point for our evening Jack the Ripper Haunts tour from London Walks.  Here we headed about the area with an expert guide to see the sights, sounds and haunts once visited by Jack the Ripper himself.  By the time the tour ended it was quite dark so we went straight to the theater district of Covent Gardens for some nightlife.  We ate dinner at one of my all time favorite places Café Pacifico Mexican Restaurant, 5 Langley St, Covent Garden and then headed back to the hotel for some much needed rest.
